Eau Claire Plaza Redevelopment, Calgary

IBI/Landplan & Marc Boutin Architect were selected as the Prime Consultants for the redevelopment of a key urban space in Calgary - Eau Claire Plaza. The primary design gesture suggests recouping the fragmented spaces of the existing plaza through the formation of a single legible open space. The space is clearly defined by a raised podium that extends from the City Centre's urban fabric, across the lagoon, to Prince's Island Park. The podium, with its embedded infrastructures, has been specifically designed to provide opportunities for intensive active use including large scale special events, day-to-day active use such as playful water features in the summer or skating in the winter, and passive use such as sitting in the shade with friends and spending an afternoon people watching.
